Van Benschoten Down, Armas to Enter Rotation

Per the AP:

The Pittsburgh Pirates sent John Van Benschoten to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, a day after the right-hander lost his fifth straight decision. …
The Pirates plan to make a roster move Sunday to replace Van Benschoten. Tony Armas Jr. will take his spot in the rotation and start Wednesday night against St. Louis.

With deadline deals possibly in the works, I suppose it makes sense to wait to make a roster move until the last second.
We’ll likely be emptying our bullpen over the next few days, and it’s entirely possible that Dave Littlefield might need to find room on the 40-man for the likes of Jesse Chavez, Marty McLeary and John Wasdin.
If we trade Chacon, Torres and Marte, then someone will have to pitch, after all.
