Miller Park | 8:05 | Youman vs. Dave Bush | Box
Well, it’s a new month and the song remains the same. Shane Youman was bombed for eight runs in two innings. Juan Perez gave up three runs (including two homers) in two innings and Milwaukee rolled behind Dave Bush’s strong six inning performance (one run, four hits, five whiffs).
If the tune is to be changed, Steve Pearce’s hand might well be the one pushing the buttons on the juke box. Pearce made his ML debut and had two hits. Bill Hall robbed him of a third. Nyjer Morgan also collected his first hit in his first AB.
AP recap at Yahoo! Sports
Shane Youman starts for the first time since August 13. After winning his first two starts of 2007, Youman dropped four straight decisions to get pulled from the rotation. He has since won a game in relief to pull his W-L record to 3-4. His only appearance against the Brewers was his first start of the season. He beat them with six innings of two run ball back on July 3. Both Ryan Braun and Johnny Estrada collected two hits off Youman. Kevin Mench’s lone knock was a four bagger.
Dave Bush has yet to beat the Pirates in three career starts (four appearances overall). He’s 0-3 with a 5.85 ERA in 20 innings. That includes a loss in Milwaukee at the hands of the Pirates back on May 3. Freddy Sanchez is the only current player to have hit him well – 5-8. Everyone else has struggled. That includes Jack Wilson (1-8), Jason Bay (1-7), Xavier Nady (0-6) and Ronny Paulino (1-6).
Let’s give some high fives to Franquelis Osoria who is unscored upon in his last 8 outings.
