Back on April 19th I posted about the unusually high rate of Pirate batters getting sent back to the bench following a whiff. At that point, the Pirates were on pace to break the team record for strikeouts in a single season.
There is good news: after 149 games, the Pirates are no longer on pace to strike out more than 1,200 times. There current pace would put them at 1,129. The Bucs are sixth worst in the NL in strikeouts.
On the bad side, the Pirates pace of walks has increased, but only to an expected level of 472. That’s not so good. They are currently 28 out of 30 ML teams in walks, beating only KC and Seattle.
