Game #24 vs. Philadelphia

PNC Park | 7:05 | Morris vs. Kyle Kendrick | Box
Unfortunately, this was another typical Matt Morris start. He didn’t make it out of the second inning and the Pirates were buried early. Kyle Kendrick was effective, being chased after allowing a couple runners on base in the 8th.
Brian Bixler committed a pair of errors, but knocked in his first ML run. Xavier Nady extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Evan Meek was unscored upon in two innings of work.

Pre-Game Thoughts
Kyle Kendrick was traded to Japan earlier this year. Or maybe not:

At any rate, he was victorious in 10 games as a rookie last year. I believe the last rookie pitcher for Philly to win ten games was Pat Combs back in 1990. I think he was still a rookie.
Kendrick is 1-2 with a 5.49 ERA in 2008. He face the Pirates once in 2007. That was on July 29th, when the Pirates were in the middle of their post-All-Star game swoon. He beat the Bucs by giving up just one run on six hits over seven innings of work. The Bucs are collectively 3-19 vs. Kendrick. One of those three hits was a homer from Nate McLouth.
Matt Morris will attempt to right his ship. He is 0-3 with a rather ugly 9.15 ERA. None of the current batch of Phillies had lit up Matty Mo. Pat Burrell is 7-21 with a homer. He’s done about the best of the lot.
In 12 career games, Morris is 5-3 vs. Philadelphia with a 3.57 ERA. Morris starter and beat the Phillies twice last year. On June 1, 2007, he went six innings and allowed one hit.
Prior to last night, almost-a-Buc Chad Durbin had allowed just one earned run in 11 appearances.
