Game #113: Webb Goes the Distance

Chase Field | 9:40 | Duke vs. Brandon Webb | Box
Brandon Webb limited the Pirates to eight singles and a double and just one run while picking up his 16th win and 3rd complete game.
Chris Young’s two run homer in the fourth was just one of four hits that Zach Duke allowed in his seven innings of work. But it was all that Webb would need. Webb needed just 103 pitches and the game was over in less than two hours.
The Pirates got three straight hits to start the 9th and score their first run. But, Webb retired the next three hitters without incident to end the game.
Pre-Game Thoughts
Brandon Webb leads the league in wins and is Top 10 in ERA, complete games, WHIP and whiffs. Yep, he’s having nice year. On June 6 Webb toppled the Pirates for his 11th win. He has now won his last four decisions and his record stands at 15-4.
He is 4-0 with a 2.41 career ERA against the Buccos in five career starts. The Pirates are 16-57 against him. Jose Bautista is 4-6 and Nate McLouth is 4-8.
It has been almost two months since Zach Duke has won. He is 0-5 in that span and his ERA has swelled by more than a run. He posted a 6.51 ERA in his six starts in July. His last win came on June 9 against Arizona. So, go figure that one. That was the game that Doug Mientkiewicz rattled Randy Johnson.
Duke is 1-1 with a 5.29 in three career starts against the Snakes. The D-Backs are 16-60 off of Duke. Mark Reynolds is 3-3 with two doubles and a homer. Conor Jackson is 0-8.
