Game #117: Utley’s Homer is the Difference

Citizens Bank Park | 1:35 | Davis vs. Jamie Moyer | Box
Rain delayed the start of the game and a homer from Chase Utley late in the game busted open a tie.
Jason Davis pitched a solid game. He went six and gave up two runs – both of which were unearned thanks to a pair of errors on the same play in the third. He allowed four hits and four walks. Jamie Moyer left trailing after giving up three runs in six innings.
But Tyler Yates allowed three runs in the seventh to allow the Phillies to take the lead. Greg Dobbs pinch hit double tied the score and Utley followed with his homer. I think it is safe to say that Dobbs is the Phils best PH since the days of Greg Gross and Del Unser.
Scott Eyre picked up the win by pitching 1/3 of an innings. Ryan Madson got the save.

Pre-Game Thoughts
Please welcome Jason Davis to the rotation. This will be his first start since July 4, 2005. In 52 career starts he is 14-19 with a 4.93 ERA. He has one complete game. This will be his first ever appearance against Philadelphia. The only Phillie batter he ever faced is Eric Bruntlett, who drew a walk.
Jamie Moyer made his ML debut before I got my driver’s license. And I got my driver’s license over 20 years ago. He has won double digits again this year and now has 240 career Ws.
Moyer is 6-7 with two complete games and a 5.54 ERA against the Pirates for his career. He was 1-1 against the Buccos in 2007.
The Pirates are just 21-92 against Moyer. Luis Rivas is 7-19. Chris Gomez is 3-29. Freddy Sanchez and Jason Michaels have homers.
