Game #141: Bucs Bullpen Blows it for Loss #81

AT&T Park | 9:05 | Maholm vs. Matt Cain | Box
Paul Maholm’s quest for his 9th win ran into a huge snag: the Pirates weary bullpen. Over six innings, Maholm allowed the Giants just one run and eight baserunners. In the next two innings the Pirates bullpen allowed eight baserunners and six runs to usher in loss #81.
The Pirates built a 4-1 lead entering the bottom of the seventh as both Freddy Sanchez and Nate McLouth knocked home a pair of runs. But in the seventh the Giants scored five runs and three after two were out. The capper to the inning was a two run homer by Scott McClain off of John Grabow.
Geno Espinelli (not Gino Vanelli) relieved starter Matt Cain with two gone in the seventh to get the win. Denny Bautista suffered the loss. Brian Wilson (not Brian Wilson) picked up the save.
One more loss until #82.
