Deal to cover three years, with a team option for a fourth. That fourth year would be Doumit’s first of free agency.
Update (10:00 PM): Dejan has updated his post to reflect that the Pirates will actually have options for each of the first two years of Doumit’s free agency. That makes this a very good deal in my opinion, as it locks Doumit up, while giving the team flexibility if his production falls off a few years down the road. ESPN is reporting that the deal would be worth $20 million over four years or $30 million over five, but Dejan says those salary numbers may not be accurate. If they are close, this is a great deal for the Pirates.
