Correia’s Arm Leads Padres Past Pittsburgh

I’m not certain a well coached high school pitcher couldn’t beat the Pirates right now. Kevin Correia picked up his 11th win on the year with seven shutout innings. He allowed five singles, a double and no walks. He struck out five.

San Diego’s offense scored three times in six innings against Paul Maholm and tacked on one more against the bullpen in the 9th.

The Good

Nothing.

The Bad

The offense.

Two errors from Ryan Doumit led to a pair of unearned runs for the Friars.

The Rest

This was Correia’s first career win and sixth career appearance (third start) against Pittsburgh.

Bucs have been shutout 15 times in 2009. Washington was an NL worst in 2008 with 21 shoutouts against them.No other NL team has been shutout more than 11 times. Through the years:

2009 – 15

2008 – 7

2007 – 13

2006 – 11

2005 – 9

2004 – 8

2003 – 9

2002 – 15

2001 – 11

2000 – 7
