Bullington Picked Up by KC

Former first round draft pick Byran Bullington was signed by the Royals. Glad for him to have found a home at least for now. He’ll have a chance to do his thing over the next couple of months and not fret about who he’ll be with in Spring Training.

The Pirates took him first overall in 2002 out of Ball State in the classic signability tradition that backfired repeatedly this decade. In the first round of that draft alone there were seven pitchers taken after Bullington who have won at least 40 games in the Majors.

Bullington was pitching well – certainly not overwhelming – in the minors and then had shoulder issues that kept him on the shelf for the better part of a year-and-a-half. His career never got back on track after that.

Bullington made six appearances with Pittsburgh and was 0-3. Since being released in July 2008 he has had brief stops in Cleveland and Toronto. He is one of only five pitchers this decade to have at least five defeats and no career wins. Here’s hoping he picks one up along the way.
